Telecommunications Engineer (January 1999) and Doctor in Communications (September 2005), both from UPNA. From 1999 to 2000, he was Microwave Network Engineer, Siemens-Italtel, Málaga. From 2000 to 2008, he was Mobile Access Network Engineer, Telefónica Móviles, in Pamplona. In 2009 he co-founded Tafco Metawireless, spin-off of the UPNA (with EIBT national label), of which he was its first manager. In parallel, from 2003 to 2009 he was Assistant Lecturer (profesor asociado) in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, UPNA. In June 2009 he became Associate Professor (PCD) at UPNA. From May 2011 to August 2022 he was Associate Professor (TU), at UPNA and since September 2022, Full Professor. From 2011 to 2012 he was secretary of the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering of UPNA. From January 2012 to July 2018 and from July 2019 to November 2021 he was Head of the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering of the UPNA. In 2018 he was Visiting Professor at Kuwait College of Science and Technology, Kuwait, for three months. He is also affiliated with the Smart Cities Institute of the Public University of Navarra, a multidisciplinary research institute with over 140 researchers, being Head of the Institute since May 2021, working on contextual and interactive environments solutions, through the integration of heterogeneous wireless communications networks, based on HetNet and IoT. Since June 2022, he is Distinguished Visiting Professor in Telecommunications School of Engineering and Science, Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico. He is specialized in applied and computational electromagnetics, more specifically in: analysis and design of complex electromagnetic media, artificial materials/ metamaterials, with special attention to the design of devices applicable to communication systems, device implementation in flexible/paper substrates, wireless power and information transfer systems, computational EM/hybrid code (developing in house code such as FDTD, 3D Ray Launching and Radar RCS), applied to the analysis of communication systems, EM human interaction and contextual intelligence environments, such as Smart Cities and Cognitive Cities. The current research lines are linked to the implementation of devices for communication systems (PLMN 5G/6G, WSN, LPWAN, Radar systems), as well as radioelectric analysis, both at the physical layer and at system level, to optimize energy consumption, interference handling, bioEM interaction, capacity/coverage relationships and joint communication and sensing. The work carried out has derived in over 200 articles in ISI-WOK indexed journals, 400 contributions in international and national conferences, 2 books, 6 book chapters and participation in 110 public and private funded projects. His citation metrics are h-index: 52 (Clarivate-Publons), 60 (Scopus), 68 (Google Scholar). Since 2013 he has supervised 12 PhD thesis, one of them winner of the best PhD award by COIT (Dr. Leyre Azplicueta, 2015, currently Ramon y Cajal Post Doctoral Researcher) and another winner of the best PhD award by Red Española de Investigación para Smart Cities CI-RTI (Dr. Peio López Iturri, 2018, currently Post Doc researcher at ISC-UPNA). He is currently supervising/co-supervising 1 on-going PhD thesis. He has been Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications (2014-15), Associate Editor of IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters (2016-22), and is currently Associate Editor in Chief of IEEE Sensors Letters (since 2017), Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation (since 2023) and Associate Editor of Scientific Reports (since 2021). In relation with research dissemination, he has participated in activities related STEM/STEAM promotion with middle school/high school students (member of project ACTIUN, funded by Education Department of the Government of Navarra since 2014), as well as in promoting liaisons between academia and industry for undergraduate and graduate students (member of the ETSIIIT-UPNA work group for Telecommunication Graduate Engineering Degree development as well as the Telecommunication Engineering Master Degree development). He has been awarded several research awards: CST Best Paper Award 2003 and 2005, Prize of the Official Association of Telecommunications Engineers 2005 for the Best Doctoral Thesis, UPNA PhD Award 2004-2006 in Experimental Sciences, 1st Prize Juan López de Peñalver 2010 to the best young researcher, Real Academia de Ingeniería de España, XII Talgo Foundation Award for Technological Innovation with the proposal "Implementation of an Environment for the Railway Ecosystem", ECSA-2 Best Paper Award (2015), Best Paper Award IISA (2015), ECSA Award -3 Best Paper Award (2016), ECSA-4 Best Paper Award (2018), Best Paper Award ISSI (2019) and IIoT 2020 Best Paper Award. He is Senior Member of IEEE (2009).
