Fabrizio Barone is Full Professor of Applied Physics (PHYS-06/A – Physics for Life Sciences, the Environment, and Cultural Heritage) at the University of Salerno, affiliated with the Department of Medicine, Surgery and Dentistry “Scuola Medica Salernitana”. ________________________________________ Education In 1985, he obtained a Laurea degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Naples “Federico II”, graduating summa cum laude (110/110 with honours). He defended a thesis entitled “Identification of the Parameters of a Binary Star System Using Optimization Algorithms”, carried out at the Chair of Electromagnetic Fields, Department of Electronics, under the supervision of Prof. Catello Savarese. In 1990, he was awarded a PhD in Physics (III cycle) by the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences of the University of Naples “Federico II”. His doctoral dissertation was entitled “A New Interferometric Approach to the Detection of Gravitational Waves from Continuous Astrophysical Sources: the VIRGO Project”. ________________________________________ Academic Career Following a public competition, on 4 March 1991 he was appointed University Researcher at the Department of Physical Sciences of the University of Naples “Federico II”. From 1 November 1999, he served as Associate Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Salerno, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Since 3 January 2005, he has held the position of Full Professor at the University of Salerno. Since its establishment in 2012, he has been affiliated with the Department of Medicine, Surgery and Dentistry “Scuola Medica Salernitana”. ________________________________________ Scientific Output Prof. Barone’s scientific output is characterised by a strong multidisciplinary approach and includes more than 700 publications in international journals and conference proceedings, 6 families of international patents, and 3 proposals for large-scale international scientific experiments (VIRGO, ARGO, Einstein Telescope). The overall impact of his research activity is documented by more than 142,000 citations and a Hirsch index of 128 (Google Scholar).
