Supervised 42 PhD students. Organizer or co-organizer of more than 30 international congresses and meetings. Organizer of 5 international teaching workshops for young scientists.
Scientific interests: Both basic and clinical research, e.g. the origins, mechanisms and maintenance of ionic and volume homeostasis in the CNS, non-synaptic transmission, diffusion in extracellular space, DW-MRI, real time-iontophoretic method for in vivo diffusion studies, MR tracking of iron oxide nanoparticles, biomaterials as tissue bridges, nanofibers as 3D stem cell carriers, nanoparticles for stem cell imaging, the role of stem cells in the rescue and replacement of damaged tissue, particularly after spinal cord injury, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease.
Current grant projects as principal investigator:
1. 3D In vitro Modelling of Alzheimer’s Disease using Astrocytes derived from Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells.
2. Treatment of spinal cord injury using implantation of umbilical cord decellularized matrix.
