Dr. Eric Arnould is Emeritus Professor at Aalto University Business School. He briefly held a Chair in the Danish Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS) at University of Southern Denmark (SDU). A global nomad, he has been on faculty at multiple European and US universities. Aalto and SDU accorded him honorary doctorates for his work on qualitative methodologies and consumer culture theory. He has been a practicing anthropologist since his undergraduate days at Bard College. Early ethnographic research in Benin and Niger inspired his approach to the analysis of global consumer culture and market systems. With anthropologically and sociologically inspired colleagues, he helped found the consumer culture theoretical approach to global consumer culture. Eric has been an associate editor and editorial review board member at major marketing journals like Journal of Consumer Research and International Journal of Research in Marketing. With Craig Thompson, Michelle Weinberger and David Crockett he has edited the 2nd edition of the book Consumer Culture Theory for Sage Publications. Neo-animist approaches to solving the Anthropocene crises preoccupy his current research interests.
