E. Alves

Eduardo Alves is Full Researcher at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), member of the Scientific Board of IST and Deputy Director of the Laboratory of Accelerators and Radiation Technologies of Campus Tecnológico e Nuclear IST. Serves on the Management Board of Instituto de Plasmas e Fusão Nuclear (IPFN) and leads the fusion materials group. From 2012-2014 was vogal of the Installation Commission of Pole Loures of IST. During 2002-2012 coordinated the Unit of Physics and Accelerators of Instituto Tecnológico e Nuclear and the Ion Beam and Nuclear Technics Group of Centro de Física Nuclear da Universidade de Lisboa (CFNUL) from 2003 to 2012. The scientific activity covers the field of radiation processing and development of advanced materials with major emphasis on plasma material interactions and ion beam irradiation and characterization. Currently supervises 3 doctoral and 2 post doctoral projects (students), besides being the national Coordinator of a European Project in the area of large facilities (SPIRIT), other in Advanced Training Network (SPRITE, Marie Curie) as well as several tasks funded by the European Fusion Development Agreement (Association EURATOM-IST). Scientific activities resulted in more than 650 publications in ISI journals with a hirsch index, h = 43. In addition he is member of the International Committee of the Conference, Ion Beam Analysis, Ion Beam Modification of Materials and Radiation Effects in Insulators having held several invited talks and oral contributions in numerous scientific meetings. He was member of the Advisory Editorial Board of Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms (2007-2012) and is reviewer for several international scientific journals and member of the selection panels for the French Accelerators Network (EMIR) and the Microanalysis Center of the Autonomous University of Madrid (CMAM). He was Professor Cordenador (Invited) of Escola Superior de Tecnologia de Saúde de Lisboa of Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa (IPL) for 20 years (1992-2012), participating in several management bodies that established the scientific and pedagogical organization of the school leading to their integration in Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa being President of the Scientific Board for 3 terms (1999-2005). Eduardo Alves was recipient of “Estímulo à Excelência” (“Stimulus to Excellence”) awarded by Nacional Science Foundation (2004) and the Silver Medal of Scientific Merit by Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa (2005).
