简介
Davy has over 20 years of experience in local to global water management.
Since 2023 he works as senior scientist in integrated modelling and assessment for IWMI, the International Water Management Institute, based in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
He has worked both in the private sector (for engineering consultants) and the public sector (universities and the European Commission), in different countries. This includes several years of professional experience and residence in Belgium, Austria, Italy, Sri Lanka, South Africa, India and Ecuador.
His experience ranges from theoretical and applied research on the science-policy interface to planning of water engineering constructions such as fish passage facilities or flood infrastructure. He has multiple years experience in project management, fieldwork, resource mobilization and organizing international expert consultations. As an expert, he has advised organizations such as the European Commission, OECD, FAO, WHO and the IADB.
He worked for 9 years at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Italy, the in-house science service of the European Commission, in water management, with strong interdisciplinary character, embedded in cross-cutting and collaborative research projects such as the water-energy-food-ecosystem (WEFE) projects for Europe, the Mediterranean and Africa. He also served as appointed member of the JRC Scientific Committee.
Davy has an extensive publication record on water management, including a number of highly cited articles and articles in leading scientific journals. His work has been featured by BBC News, Le Monde, Der Spiegel, La Repubblica, Times of India, Bloomberg, Reuters, among others.
He has several years of experience in (visual) science communication and as independent photojournalist. This includes a photobook on Transhumance in the Alps as well as the photoseries "The water we eat" as part of the JRC "Art and Science" project.
Davy acquired a MSc as engineer in agricultural and applied biological sciences from the KUL (BE). Additionally, he obtained a MSc in water resources engineering from the VUB (BE) and a PhD in integrated water resources management from the University of Innsbruck (AT) in 2009.
Davy is fluent in English, French, German. His mother tongue is Dutch.
