Dan Rujescu

Dan Rujescu has been Professor of Psychiatry and Psychotherapeutic Medicine at MedUniVenna and Head of the Division of General Psychiatry since May 2021. He completed his medical studies at the Universities of Heidelberg and Essen. From 1993-1995 he worked as a doctor at the Psychiatry Clinic at the University of Mainz. He then worked at the Psychiatric Clinic at the Luwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, as Head of the Department of Molecular and Clinical Neurobiology, Senior Physician, Specialist in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Professor of Psychiatry, Head of the Alzheimer's Memorial and Deputy Head of the Department. From 2012 to spring 2021 he held the chair in the Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics at the University of Halle, Germany. He refers to an extensive publication list with more than 450 original publications with a Hirsch factor of over 80 (e.g. Nature; Nature Genetics). He has top-class national and especially international collaborations and has so far raised more than €9.2 million in third-party funding, including eight EU-funded projects, three genome-wide genotyping initiatives by the Wellcome Trust (WTCCC2/3), a DFG priority program, and one project of the Bavarian Research Foundation, two RO1 projects of the National Institutes of Mental Health (USA), a project of the National Genome Research Network and a project of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Dan Rujescu is a member of several national and international scientific societies. He is Chair of the Genetics Working Group and Editor-in-Chief of the World Journal of Biological Psychiatry of the World Society of Biological Psychiatry (WFSBP). He is also PI of the EU-FP7 project "Optimizing current therapeutic approaches to schizophrenia. Optimization of Treatment and Management of Schizophrenia (OPTIMISE)" and the EU-FP7 consortium "Pharmacogenomic bio-markers as clinical decision making tools for clozapine". treatment of schizophrenia (CRESTAR)" (OPTIMISE)".
