Our group investigates the formation of biominerals by magnetotactic bacteria. We have developed experimental tools to study the time-resolved formation of magnetosomes by a whole set of analytical techniques.
The unique performance of the bacterial biomaterials is also a source of inspiration for the materials scientists. Thus, we develop biomimetic routes for the synthesis of hybrid magnetic nanocrystals under controlled conditions.
We use the nanoparticles we synthesize to build swimming micromachines
