简介

My main research interests are the discovery of genes involved in the development of cancer in populations of African ancestry and their application to improved diagnosis and treatment. I have published >280 peer-reviewed articles and have an H-index of 91, with >44,0500 citations. I was listed as a Thompson Reuters most highly cited researcher in 2014, 2015, 2016. My scientific contribution to medical research was acknowledged by election as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, UK in 2001. I have also held many leadership roles in genetic science and have served on major research grant committees such as Cancer Research UK and the Wellcome Trust. I was appointed as a Distinguished Professor in Human Genetics at the Sydney Brenner Institute for Molecular Bioscience (SBIMB) at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2015. My role at the SBIMB is to develop an internationally competitive research program on role of genetics and genomics in common African cancers, and to train a new generation of African scientists in cancer genetics/genomics. I was appointed Emeritus Professor in Molecular Genetics at King's College London in 2020.
