Chaminda T.E.R. Hewage received his B.Sc. Engineering (Hons.) degree in Electrical and Information Engineering from the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka. From 2004 to 2005, he worked as a Telecommunication Engineer at Sri Lanka Telecom PLC, Sri Lanka, specializing in data communications.
He completed his Ph.D. at the i-LAB, Centre for Communication Systems Research (CCSR), University of Surrey, Guildford, UK. His doctoral thesis, titled “Perceptual Quality Driven 3D Video over Networks,” focused on quality-centric multimedia transmission. During this period, he also contributed to the VISNET II Network of Excellence under the IST FP6 programme, working on robust immersive media communications. He founded the Cybersecurity and Information Networks Centre (CINC) at Cardiff Metropolitan University to advance security and privacy research, innovation, and enterprise in Wales, the UK, and internationally.
From September 2009 to September 2015, he was a member of the Wireless Multimedia and Networking (WMN) Research Group at Kingston University, London, UK. During this period, he also contributed to the OPTIMIX and CONCERTO EU projects under the IST FP7 programme, working on robust immersive media communications over unreliable wireless channels. Since November 2015, he has been with the Cardiff School of Technologies (CST) at Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK, where he serves as an Associate Professor in Data Security and the Associate Dean Research (ADR).
His research interests include cybersecurity, data protection, next-generation multimedia communications, data visualization, Quality of Experience (QoE), and related areas in data security. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, a Member of IET, Member of Chartered Institute of Information Security (CIISec), and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Additionally, he holds Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), and Certified EC-Council Instructor (CEI) and Cisco Instructor certifications.
