Carlos Diéguez

Prof . Carlos Dieguez (1955) is CIMUS`s Scientific Director. Following a postgraduated training in Cardiff, UK (1981-1987) he join the USC, being Professor of Physiology USC since 1991. His most relevant contributions in the beginning 1980-95) were related to the neurorregulation of GH secretion,. Over the last 25 years he made several seminal contributions in the regulation of energy balance and ghrelin biology. He has has published more than 500 peer- reviewed articles in international journals, mainly in the field of Endocrinology and Metabolism but some published in journals as Nat Med, Lancet, Cell Metab, Nat Comm, Nat Metab, PNAS, Cell Rep…. Of note he is at the top ten of active Spanish scientists (working in Spain) having > 50.000 citations and HI of 124 (Google Scholar). He has has received almost continuous european funding (2003-2021) through several European consortiums (OBEAGE, DIABESITY, REPROBESITY, NEUROFAST, TRANS-INT, NUTRIAGE). He has had been invited speaker at the major international congress of Endocrinology, including the Opening Plenary Lecture of the Europena Congress of Endocrinology (2015) and the European Congress of Obesity (2021). He was the recipient of several awards including being the first European to receive the HypoCCS award (in 1993)for outstanding contributions in Neuroendocrinology of scientist younger than 45) and more recently (2014) the Geoffrey Harris of the European Society of Endocrinology for Life-time achievements.
