Bo Barker Jørgensen

Summary: MSc in Biology from Aarhus University (AU) 1973. Hired as Lecturer at AU 1975 and as Senior Lecturer 1977. PhD degree from AU in 1977 and DSc degree in 1979. I worked and taught at AU for 14 years. In 1987, I was granted a 5-year Research Professorship of the Danish Natural Science Research Council. In 1992, I started as founding director of a new Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen, Germany, and head of the Department of Biogeochemistry. In 1993, I was hired as professor in the Geology Department at the University of Bremen and as adjunct professor in Biology at AU. In 2007, I returned to Denmark to found a new Center for Geomicrobiology at AU with joint funding from the Danish National Research Foundation and the Max Planck Society. In 2011, I retired as director at the MPI in Bremen and was hired as Professor of Geomicrobiology at AU. Since 2017, I am Professor in the Section for Microbiology at AU.
