Beom Joon Kim, MD, PhD is Professor of Neurology at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, where he is a vascular neurologist and past Chief of the Cerebrovascular Disease Center. He received his MD, MS, and PhD in Neuroscience from Seoul National University, completed neurology residency and vascular neurology fellowship at Seoul National University Hospital, and undertook a research fellowship at the Calgary Stroke Program under the mentorship of Bijoy K. Menon. Dr. Kim’s research links real-world stroke care with quantitative imaging, focusing on acute ischemic stroke, intracranial atherosclerosis, cerebral perfusion, and vascular cognitive impairment. He has led or contributed to numerous multicenter clinical trials, built large-scale imaging registries, and conducted comparative effectiveness studies to refine imaging-based diagnosis, treatment selection, and secondary prevention. His group also develops and validates AI methods for lesion and plaque characterization, perfusion-derived risk stratification, and pragmatic decision support that can be integrated into routine workflows. He has published over 250 peer-reviewed articles. He serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Stroke, has held leadership roles in the Korean Stroke Society, is a member of the International Stroke Conference Program Committee and is a member of World Stroke Organization Certification Committee. His work emphasizes interpretable biomarkers, external validation, and responsible implementation in busy emergency settings.
