I am a veterinary epidemiologist, One Health researcher, and Lecturer in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Nigeria. I obtained a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Usmanu Danfodiyo University before gaining practical experience in commercial livestock production and veterinary public service. I later earned a Postgraduate Certificate in International Animal Health from the University of Edinburgh and, as a Commonwealth Scholar, completed a Master of Science in Control of Infectious Diseases in Animals (now MSc One Health: Ecosystems, Humans and Animals) at the Royal Veterinary College and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, University of London.
My MSc research, supervised by Professor Dirk U. Pfeiffer, analysed a large national bovine tuberculosis surveillance dataset from Great Britain and was published in Preventive Veterinary Medicine. My research focuses on veterinary epidemiology, One Health, infectious disease epidemiology, livestock health, zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, disease surveillance, and advanced statistical modelling. I have led and collaborated on multidisciplinary research published in international peer-reviewed journals and currently serve as a Senior Collaborator with the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) Global Burden of Disease Study.
My current research interests centre on integrating epidemiology, quantitative modelling, genomics, climate science, and data analytics to better understand and control infectious diseases at the human–animal–environment interface. I am particularly interested in interdisciplinary collaborations that translate scientific evidence into effective policy and practice. A complete list of my publications is available via my ResearchGate and Google Scholar profiles.
