I received my degree in Physics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1985 and earned my Ph.D. in Experimental Physics from the same institution in 1990. My thesis, titled "Measurement of the electroweak parameters from Z decays into lepton pairs with the ALEPH detector at the LEP e+e- collider," was completed while working with the ALEPH collaboration at CERN. This research contributed to the publication "Determination of the number of light neutrino species" in Physics Letters B (Vol. 231, No. 4, pp. 519-529). Following my Ph.D., I worked as a computing scientist for various institutions, including UAB (1990–1992), CERN, and IFAE, spending a total of 13 years at CERN. I coordinated and participated in multiple projects related to the ALEPH and ATLAS experiments, as well as Grid computing (EGEE). In 2003, I joined the Port d'Informació Científica (PIC) as Technical Director, a role I held until 2005. I subsequently rejoined the ATLAS collaboration at CERN for the start of LHC operations in 2007. Notably, I served as the ATLAS Distributed Analysis Coordinator during the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012. This historic finding was published in Physics Letters B and led to the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physics for the theoretical prediction of the Higgs mechanism. Over the years, I have held a diverse range of other leadership roles, including serving as the coordinator of the ATLAS ADC Technical Computing Forum and as the Distributed Production and Analysis (DP&A) coordinator. In these capacities, I managed critical production activities—such as Monte Carlo production and High-Level Trigger reprocessing—and led reviews of distributed computing projects to ensure efficiency and robustness. Currently, I hold several key positions. Since March 2024, I have served as the Distributed Computing Coordinator for the ATLAS experiment; prior to this (2021–2024), I coordinated the ATLAS ADC Workflow Management area. Since 2016, I have also been jointly responsible for the management, planning, and operation of the ATLAS Tier-1 center at PIC. This facility currently operates a 50 PB tape system, 24 PB of disk storage, and a cluster with approximately 14,000 cores, making it the largest Grid center in Spain. In terms of research funding, I am the Principal Investigator (PI) for the project PID2022-142604OB-C22, titled "Processing, Simulation, and Analysis of Data in Tier-1 and Tier-2 Centers for LHC Phase VII Experiments." Since 2005, I have served as PI for five previous WLCG-related projects at PIC funded by the Spanish FPA program. My primary objective is to advance information technology by applying Big Data analysis to the study of Particle Physics. Through research utilizing the ATLAS detector at the LHC, I aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of matter. Just as the World Wide Web originated at CERN, the technologies developed for analyzing vast amounts of experimental physics data hold significant potential for applications in other scientific fields.
